I always believe that energy harvesting is expected to play a very significant role in the future of the internet of things (IoT) although there are different ways to harness the energy like through solar or wind power, they are usually a bit unstable and dependent on the environment. We believe a kinetic energy harvester is a type of technology that has much potential.
The harvesting of “free” energy can come from common activities, such as walking, jogging, biking, opening a door, basically whatever motion you can think of. Surprisingly, except for those living the most inactive lifestyles, we all move around enough that a kinetic energy harvester such as a modified Fitbit could sustain a wireless network link with other devices, such as a PC or smartphone.
If we are able to harness all the motions we create on a daily basis, and use that to connect with devices and objects around us. With the current technologies and what’s being developed today, a battery-free world is just around the corner.
